ABUJA-FOLLOWING a point of order raised by Senator Chukwuka Utazi, PDP, Enugu North over the deployment of Nigerian troops to Gambia by President Muhammadu Buhari without the approval of the Upper chambers, both Senators Rafiu Ibrahim, APC, Kwara South and Adesoji Akanbi, APC, Oyo South said, said Wedesday that the president acted within the ambit of the law.
Senator Rafiu Ibrahim said, “it is a constitutional reminder for the President and Ism sure our President Muhammadu Buhari will not do anything unconstitutional. You will recall that the Senate President guided that the President still has a grace of seven days to communicate to the National Assembly for the approval.”
Also speaking with Vanguard, Senator Adesoji Akanbi, APC, Oyo South said, ” I believe that the President has the Executive powers to do what he did without referring to the National Assembly. I do not believe that the President had done something wrong. The constitution is clear on that, he did not violate any law, he has the fiat to do what he did.”
