ASABA— Flood has wrecked havoc in over 30 communities in Ughelli North and Ughelli South Local Government areas of Delta State, destroying property and farmlands worth millions of naira.
The communities affected in Ughelli North are, Ekrerhavwen-Agbarho, Oguname-Agbarho, parts of Agbarho urban, Ighagbomi Street, and Omoyibo Street, off Up-Agbarho Street, adjoining Ighagbomi, Makolomi extension, UK Street, Agbarha-Otor, among others.
While communities affected in Ughelli South include Oguname-Olomu, Otu-Jeremi, Okwagbe, Otor Ewu, Akperhe-Olomu, Effurun-Otor, Oginibo, Okpare-Olomu, Okparabe, Oviri-Olomu, Iwhekekan, Assah and Omafuvwe.
Chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Area, Mr. Paul Etaga, who spoke to Vanguard, called on the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, and the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, to come to their aid.
Speaking shortly after NEMA officials were conducted round the affected areas by the Commissioner in charge of the Bureau for Special Duties, Mr. Ernest Ogwezzy, NEMA’s Head of Operations in charge of Edo, Delta and Bayelsa states, Mr. Walson Brandon, said they had collated the number of victims and will send their report to the national headquarters of NEMA in Abuja for necessary action.
