A Brazilian professor, Luciana Dorin, has refused to undergo a surgery to remove a large tumour on her face.

According to Dailymail, Dorini suffers from a condition known as arteriovenous malformation, a tangle of blood vessels under the skin causing disfigurement.

She was born with a tiny birthmark on her right cheek that has swollen over the years, developing into a rare tumour.

Dorin’s mother, Lucia, said her daughter was eight months old when her gums started haemorrhaging and had to be taken to the hospital, where she had surgery and almost died.

She said, “Not even the doctors knew what it was.”

According to Luciana, she has had 19 surgical sessions to remove a tumour but it had all proven abortive and she is not willing to take the risk any longer.

She said, “My fear is putting my life at risk in an operating theatre and having to suffer all over again. I think I have already suffered as a result of necessary surgeries.

“Looking different doesn’t stop me from doing anything. Of course I won’t stop thinking about the possibility of having surgery to reduce the volume, but for now, no.”

Dorin explained that as a child, she never saw herself as being different neither did she suffer any social problems.

“Socially, I never had a problem with it. I wanted to take part in everything, If they needed a main character for a play, that would be me. If they needed a model for a fashion show, I’d do it. I was never hiding”, she said.
