A former Minister of Aviation and governorship candidate of the United Progressive Party, Mr. Osita Chidoka, has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission to use the upgraded voter card readers in the November 18 governorship election in Anambra State.

Chidoka made the appeal on Tuesday at a press conference at his campaign office in Awka, the Anambra State capital.

He said to ensure a credible poll, the commission must use its automated system to directly transmit results from the polling units to its central server.

He said this would ensure that nothing but the wish of the people as expressed at the polls would prevail.

He said, “INEC has the capacity to conduct free and fair elections, but that is if it wants to do so. We are looking up to them to give us a credible election.

“Most important is that we are counting on them to give us the electronic transmission equipment which we are sure will forestall rigging in the election.”

He maintained that he would win the November 18 poll in the state, saying, “We have adopted a technological and scientific method to reach voters. We have 26,000 workers who are canvassing for votes for us in all the wards in the state.

“ At our call centres, we have 100 people who are making calls to all the voters in the state. Our targets are those who have collected their voter cards, and we call them to canvass for votes, and I can tell you sitting down here how many votes we will get in most areas in the state.

“ We know areas where we have called them and they gave us their words, places were they said no to us and those who are undecided. We are winning the election. It is not about the number of people mobilised to rallies.”
