FORMER Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, Delta State chapter, Sir. Itiako Ikpokpo, has emerged the chairmanship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Isoko South Local Government Area for the January 6 local council election in the state.
At the party’s primary election which had accredited delegates from all the wards, executives of the PDP in the council area and key stalwarts of the party in attendance, the Returning Officer for the election, Mr. Emeka Asiwe, put the question for affirmative voting.
Asiwe declared Ikpokpo, who is the immediate past chairman of the local government as the candidate of the PDP for Isoko South after an overwhelming affirmation by the delegates.
Speaking at the end of the exercise, Ikpokpo thanked the leadership of the party for the peaceful, fair and orderly conduct of the primary election.
He promised to consolidate on the foundations he laid in critical areas of agriculture, environment, economic diversification, primary healthcare among others, if re-elected.
The primary election was witnessed by Mr. Afor Ogbolor, of the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, DSIEC, security agencies and representatives of some civil society organizations.
